The Supreme Court agreed to hear Trump's immunity claims around charges of election subversion. Trump stands to benefit from SCOTUS hearing because it could delay his trial, legal experts say. Special counsel Jack Smith's federal case against Trump cannot proceed until the Supreme Court makes its decision, which could take months. NEW YORK (AP) — A man accused of stalking Taylor Swift after being spotted multiple times outside the singer's Manhattan townhouse was found unfit to stand trial and will be committed to state custody for psychiatric treatment, attorneys said Friday. David Crowe, 33, was arrested three times late last month in front of the pop star’s home in Manhattan's exclusive Tribeca neighborhood. Crowe was found unfit to stand trial after a psychiatric exam, and the case was dismissed. He will be committed to the custody of the Office of Mental Health to receive treatment, according to the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Swift’s Manhattan townhouse has been the scene of several break-ins when Swift wasn’t there, including by some who were identified as stalkers.

KINSHASA (Reuters) - Fighting between ethnic communities left 11 people dead in western Congo on Tuesday, a local authority and civil society leader said after their bodies were collected on Wednesday. The conflict between Teke and Yaka communities that started in 2022 over a land dispute caused a deterioration in the humanitarian and security situation in several provinces near the capital Kinshasa. At least 3,000 people have been killed and more than 150,000 displaced by the conflict, according to the United Nations. The clashes in Mai-Ndombe province killed 10 Mobondo militants, allied with the Yaka community, and one soldier, village chief Stany Libie and civil society leader Martin Suta told Reuters. A 33-year-old man has been arrested twice in roughly 48 hours after stalking Taylor Swift outside her Manhattan home, the police said on Tuesday. The man, David Crowe, of Seattle, was charged by the police on Monday with two counts of harassment and two counts of stalking. A neighbor and a security guard at the pop star’s building in TriBeCa had spotted Mr. Crowe, who was first arrested near Ms. Swift’s residence over the weekend. Around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, security personnel called 911 to report that Mr. Crowe had tried to enter the residence, the police said. A judge had issued the warrants after Mr. Crowe failed to show up to court to answer those summonses.

But Sinatra returned two years later, to much ballyhoo and chart success, with the album “Ol’ Blue Eyes is Back.” Bowie was paying attention. “David was a big Sinatra fan,” his former manager, Tony DeFries, recently told Mojo magazine. Bowie’s retirement was a ruse, DeFries added, to generate publicity and whip up demand for a headlining tour of big venues in the United States. It worked; in 1974, Bowie played arenas across the country, including two shows at Madison Square Garden. After Bowie retired in 1973, then unretired in 1974, he retired a second time in 1975.

CNN —The James Webb Space Telescope has looked into the heart of the Milky Way galaxy, unveiling new features and mysteries within the chaotic region that could help astronomers unravel more details about the early universe. Astronomers used Webb to glimpse Sagittarius C, or Sgr C, an active region of star formation located about 300 light-years from the galaxy’s central supermassive black hole Sagittarius A*. A light-year, equivalent to 5.88 trillion miles (9.46 trillion kilometers), is how far a beam of light travels in one year. Astronomers are still trying to determine what has created the vast amount of energized gas, which surpasses what would normally be released by young massive stars. “Webb has provided us with a ton of data on this extreme environment, and we are just starting to dig into it.”

American book-reading habits have been in decline for decades, but you wouldn’t know it from sitting in on a young-adult literature class held last winter at Brigham Young University. The professor, Chris Crowe, arrived to the classroom with a box full of books. When he announced they were free for the taking, some two dozen students rushed to the table. There were reminders that the class was taking place at “the Lord’s university,” as B.Y.U. And the discussion, which that day focused on “Make Lemonade,” Virginia Euwer Wolff’s verse novel about two teenagers living in poverty, came to a familiar head.

Stocks look "pretty pricey" and a recession is "right around the corner," Steve Hanke told Insider. Hanke sees inflation cooling, 10-year Treasury yields falling, and house prices staying afloat. As for the housing market, Hanke noted there's a shortage of homes for sale. Steve Hanke is professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins University. "With lower inflation and a recession right around the corner, I anticipate that the 10-year yields will come down and the gap will close," Hanke said.

The seal of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is seen at their headquarters in Washington, D.C., U.S., May 12, 2021. Crowe, Bostock and Stallabrass neither admitted nor denied the charges, according to the SEC. A lawyer representing the three referred queries to a company representative who did not immediately respond to a request for comment. According to the SEC, Crowe falsely claimed its staff were qualified to conduct an audit according to standards set by the U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and failed to exercise appropriate skepticism when presented with fabricated documents, among other failings. Crowe has agreed to withdraw its PCAOB registration while Bostock and Stallabrass have agreed to be suspended from appearing before the SEC as accountants for minimum periods of five and two years, respectively, the SEC said.

“I said sure, I’d read it right away, and I did,” Soderbergh wrote. In other hands, “Out of Sight” might not have proved to be such a game changer for Clooney, who was having a rough time making the transition from “E.R.” heartthrob to movie star. And another director might not have cast Jennifer Lopez, whose movie-star stock also rose considerably after her tough, sexy turn in the film. “Out of Sight” (streaming on Peacock) was part of a mini-bonanza of Leonard adaptations, following the success of “Get Shorty” (1995).
